Ford has patented an innovate new windscreen for driverless vehicles which doubles as a video screen when the car is in autonomous mode.
The patented design includes several configuration, such as a projection screen near the windshield and another which can descend from the ceiling.
The built in entertainment system senses when the vehicle is in autonomous mode, and folds away when a person takes over the driving duties.
Asked about its plans to implement the system, Ford issued a statement which said: “As a technology leader, we submit patents on innovative ideas as a normal course of business. Patent applications are intended to protect new ideas but aren’t necessarily an indication of new business or product plans.”
Volvo, meanwhile, has its own plans to put trays and screens into its driverless vehicles, effectively turning the cabin into the equivalent of first class airline seats.
